Swope, Gerard
(1 dic. 1872, St. Louis, Mo., EE.UU.–20 nov. 1957, Nueva York, N.Y.).

Líder empresarial estadounidense. Después de graduarse en el Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ingresó a Western Electric Co. Inc. en 1895 y pasó a ser director en 1913. En 1919 fue nombrado presidente de la filial internacional de General Electric Co. (GE) e incrementó de manera significativa los negocios de la empresa en el exterior. Como presidente de General Electric (1922–39, 1942–44), amplió su línea de productos de consumo y fue precursor de los programas de participación en las utilidades y otros planes de prestaciones para los trabajadores. También sirvió en el Consejo asesor de empresas del Departamento de Comercio, y sus ideas y su respaldo fueron la base de importantes programas del New Deal, como la National Recovery Administration (NRA) y la ley de seguridad social.
